There are a ton of good, faithful resources about leadership out there. So when you find yourself in the midst of tension or chaos, don’t try to reinvent the wheel. Turn to some awesome words from some awesome people…
Leading Change Without Losing It – Casey Nieuwhof
Casey outlines some straight forward level-headed strategies for leading through change or tension. Casey also has a website and blog full of awesome resources and information (check it out here – http://careynieuwhof.com/)
Teams that Thrive – Ryan Hartwig & Warren Bird
I picked up this book at last year’s Christian Church General Assembly. It is great! It is not specifically tailored to times of tension, but it has so many good words on developing healthy teams.
The Art of Pastoring (Contemplative Reflections) – William C. Martin
This book has been one of my main stays in ministry. With reflections on change and security to perfection and simplicity, it is full of short reflective pieces on ministry. I find it centering as it reminds me of the real reason that I do what I do – God.
Disaster Spiritual Care – Edited by Rabbi Stephen B. Roberts and Rev. Willard W.C. Ashley Sir.
If you seasons of tension is caused by a natural disaster or community tragedy, this is a must have resource. Written with an interfaith approach in mind, it compiles helpful resources to understand and lead in response to tragedy. It is full of practical responses that you can use right away. (Note: It looks like an updated version is coming out July 2016!)
I hope you find these resources helpful to you in stressful times!
