Sunday Sabbath, "A Short Homily"

A SHORT HOMILY…

hand-print-exposure

“Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.” – Hebrews 4:12-13 NRSV

Why is being exposed a bad thing? We all have walls and curtains that we hide behind. When we gather in God’s presence, there is an expectation that we should all be “neked”. Open for God’s pushing and pulling, ready to be put to service for God’s purposes, guided by scripture and formed by the Spirit. We don’t feel comfortable there, because we don’t open ourselves up to those moments very often. Our scripture today says that we can’t hide, God knows us and still loves us, God asks us to lay it all out there.
