Rev. Mike Hunter, CCA has been involved in ministry in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the past 35 years and was ordained by Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in 1995. Mike has served Disciple congregations in Lufkin (78-92; 00-09) and Tyler (92-00) in times of numerical and spiritual growth.
From 2000-2009, he served as Senior Minister for First Christian Church of Lufkin, Texas. While there the church remodeled the sanctuary, expanded and upgraded preschool facilities, and completed a state of the art digital youth ministry center. The congregation successfully added a contemporary worship service, launched a new missional emphasis and served as a shelter for the evacuees of three hurricanes! Lufkin’s multiple worship model has been adopted by several congregations.
Since September 2009, Mike has served as Senior Minister and Administrator of First Christian Church, Midland. Early goals of stewardship stabilization, staff assessment, and visible presence in the community are on track.
Mike is a certified educator and has the additional distinction of a “CCA Fellow” with the National Association of Church Business Administrators (NACBA). He has served as board member for the Association of Disciple Musicians, Hospice in the Pines, and Love, Inc. He has degrees from Wayland Baptist University (BM) and Stephen F. Austin State University (MA). Mike has extended continuing education in preaching, program development, and stewardship. Mike has written stewardship materials and led stewardship workshops for local congregations. Mike is now serving his fourth different appointment with two different areas to the Regional Committee on Ministry for the Christian Church in the Southwest. Mike’s passion is to mentor men and women seeking ordination.
Mike also has been involved in the digital upgrades for the Regional staff of the Christian Church in the Southwest and offers time as time will allow to freely consult with Disciple congregations on matters of administration, staffing, and structure.
Mike is a member of the Emmaus community and has been guest preacher, assistant spiritual director and spiritual director for numerous Emmaus Walks.
Mike is married to Enid Hunter. Enid is an accomplished double reed soloist and elementary music educator. They have two married daughters, Micah James, and Cameron Seale. Most importantly our two girls have both made us grandparents to sweet Cadence, Xander, Oden, and Zoey.
Mike and Enid love RV camping and enjoy the southwest and the mountains.
Rev. Micah James, CCA is an ordained minister with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). As a part of this ministry, Micah utilizes her creative and administrative gifts as she facilitates ministry programs and events for the church community.
Micah is a life long Disciple of Christ, with ministry experience at all levels of the denomination. Micah has a background as a middle school teacher, graduating from TCU in 2005 with her Bachelor of Science in Education. Micah graduated with her Masters of Divinity from Brite Divinity School (TCU) in May 2012, and during her seminary career received The Barbara and Curtis Keith, Jr. Student Ministry Award (2011) and The Colby D. Hall Award (2012) given to a promising Disciples graduating senior.
Micah has recently completed a certificate program through the NACBA (National Association of Church Administrators or “The Church Network”) and feels a strong call to work in the areas of stewardship and mission. She feels strongly about the importance of the ministry of administration and stewardship as it strengthens the greater work of the church.
Micah has served congregations in Kentucky and Texas. In each congregation, Micah helped develop and support the administrative ministry. She has specific experience in administration associated with Youth and Children and has a strong conviction to create safe spaces for these ministries in each congregation she serves.
On April 1, 2015, Micah began a new ministry position at First Christian Church of Edmond, OK as their Associate Minister of Faith Development. At FCC Edmond, Micah gives to dive into her strengths of working as Pastor-Administrator with preaching, teaching, oversight of staff, ministry collaboration and visioning, mentoring and evaluation, and program support.
Micah is the mom of two adorable kiddos, Oden and Zoey. In June 2017, Micah will celebrate twelve years of marriage to her awesome partner/spouse, Nick James.
Over the past few years, Rev. Micah James, in collaboration with her father, Rev. Mike Hunter, have been invited to give several education seminars on administrative issues facing ministers and churches.
